Per guidance from the Administrative Office of the Courts, dated May 14, 2021, Municipal Courts will now resume issuing bench warrants and failures to appear for missed court appearances.
We are an independent branch of government constitutionally entrusted with the fair and just resolution of disputes in order to preserve the rule of law and to protect the rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United States and this State.
INDEPENDENCE - INTEGRITY - FAIRNESS - QUALITY SERVICE
The Municipal Court has jurisdiction over cases within their municipality.
This includes violations of municipal ordinances, violations of motor vehicle traffic laws, disorderly person's offenses, petty disorderly person's offenses and other non-indictable offenses, except where exclusive jurisdiction is given to the Superior Court.
Also included within this jurisdiction are violations of fish and game and weights and measures.
The Lower Township Municipal Court also hears cases originating from the Delaware River and Bay Authority stationed at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry.
